The WCHS Ladycats extended their season record to 16 - 4, as they took wins over Hickman County and Perry County. The Wildcats had a hard week, falling to both teams. They now stand at 12 - 7 on the year. Following a home game with Fayetteville Tuesday, the teams will be on the road to Collinwood Friday and to Florence to take on the teams from Mars Hill next Tuesday.
Tuesday night, the Ladycats took a 16 – 10 advantage after one quarter of action. They increased the lead to double digits, 31 – 21, by halftime. Hickman County fought back in the third, cutting the margin to 5, 46 – 41, before Presley Daniel hit for a three-point play to make it 49 -41 at the end of the period. The Ladycats pulled away in the fourth to take the win, 67 – 50.
Ava Ashley had a big night, hitting for 33 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. She shot 62.5% from the field and also had 3 blocked shots, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Presley Daniel finished with 12 points and had 7 rebounds, a block, a steal, and 3 assists. Mary Grace Littleton had 9 points with 6 boards, a steal, and 3 assists. Adaline Odle scored 7 points and had a rebound, a steal, and 3 assists. Kate Brison had 4 points with an assist, and Lou Prater had 2 points, a rebound, 4 steals, and 7 assists. Kaybree Carroll had 3 rebounds. The Ladycats had 19 assists on 28 made baskets.
The Wildcats got off to a really rough start against the Bulldogs of Hickman County. They scored their first point with 2:45 left in the first quarter and trailed 13 -6 at the close of the period. They matched points in the second, being down 22 – 15 at halftime. In the third, an offensive rebound and 3-point play by Logan Davis made the margin 3, 23- 26. Hickman County answered with a 3 and led by 9 at the end of three. The 'Cats could get no closer as they fell by the final score 51 – 39.
Cayman Camfield and Caysen Mosley each scored 9 points to lead the 'Cats. Camfield had 2 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists, while Mosley had 7 boards and a steal. Logan Davis finished with 8 points and had 4 rebounds, a block, and 2 assists. Drew Baugus scored 6 points and had 3 rebounds and an assist. Kace Bryant had 3 points, 5 rebounds, a steal, and 3 assists. Nate Bevis and Warren Camfield each scored 2 points. Bevis had a rebound, a steal, and an assist, while Camfield had a rebound. Case Butler had 5 rebounds. The 'Cats shot only 27.3% from the field and were only 4 of 23 from long range for 17.4%. They were outrebounded 32- 28.
The Ladycats got off to a great start against the Lady Vikings of Perry County, forcing 5 first quarter turnovers and holding Perry County to 5 points. They took a 39 – 12 halftime lead, forcing 13 turnovers, and coasted to a 62 – 27 win. Ava Ashley, Lou Prater, and Presley Daniel each scored in double figures. Ashley had 18 points, 8 rebounds, a block, 2 steals, and an assist. Prater had 14 points with a rebound, 2 steals, and 6 assists, and Daniel had 10 points 5 rebounds, a steal, and an assist. Adaline Odle scored 6 points on two three-pointers with a rebound, 2 steals, and an assist. Emma Green and Mary Grace Littleton each had 4 points. Green had a rebound, while Littleton grabbed 13 boards and had an assist. Shylynn Smith hit a three, with 2 rebounds and an assist. Kate Brison had a three and a steal. Kaybree Carroll had a steal, and Carleigh Labombard had 2 boards with an assist. Kinsley Miller and Izzie Scaife each had a rebound. The Ladycats hit 8 of 19 from long range for 42.1%. They were 10 of 12 from the foul line. They won the rebounding, 35 – 15.
The Wildcats watched Perry County go on a 14 – 3 run in the first 2:45 of the game Friday. They trailed 22 – 7 at the end of the first quarter. The 'Cats fought back in the second, outscoring the Vikings, 20 – 14, in the frame. In the third, Perry County extended the lead back to 14, 49 – 35, in the third. A Logan Davis basket with 3:30 left cut the margin to 6, but Perry County hit a pair of free throws to up the margin to 8. With 1:55 left, Kace Bryant made a basket to again cut the margin to 6, but the Vikings made their free throws down the stretch to take the big district win, 69 – 60.
Cayman Camfield led in scoring with 18 points, and Logan Davis tallied 16. Camfield had 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4 assists. Davis had a rebound, a steal, and an assist. Caysen Mosley also hit for double digits, coming off the bench to add 11 points, 7 boards, a block, and a steal. Drew Baugus added 9 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Case Butler added 3 points with a rebound, a block, and a steal. Kace Bryant scored 2 points with 2 rebounds and 4 assists, and Warren Camfield had 1 point with a rebound. Perry County shot 48.5% from the field and 75% from the foul line.
