Waynesboro American Legion Post 130 Leads "Christmas in July Parade"

Posted

On Saturday, July 18, Waynesboro American Legion Post 130 was invited to lead the opening parade for the “Christmas in July” event held by the Bridle and Saddle Club. Although the weather was very hot, everyone seemed to enjoy the various events, including the children’s “stick races.”

The legion led the parade with their mobile American flag display. The display, driven by Post 130 Commander Mr. George Mansfield, is a restored 1948 Jeep donated to Post 130 by Mr. Pat Warren. Riding with Mr. Mansfield was Mr. James Herbert Haggard. Mr. Haggard is the oldest member of the Post at 92 years old and the Post’s last living member of the Korean Conflict.

After the National Anthem, the flag display Jeep, followed by several horses/riders, rode around the course three times while several photos were taken.

The American Legion is composed of veterans of all military branches and is dedicated to the support of both military and non-military community needs. American Legion Post 130 supports community causes such as the Butterfly Foundation, Boys’ State, and Living Free.

All veterans are welcome to visit and are encouraged to join the American Legion.
