The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has extended an open invitation to the dedication ceremony for the new Buffalo River State Park. Located along Horseshoe Bend Road at the Wayne/Perry County line, the new State Park will feature over two miles of Buffalo River frontage, along with protected woodlands and open pastures. It is an initiative aimed at enhancing outdoor recreation and preserving Tennessee’s natural landscape. The project is part of a larger, ongoing state effort to add new, sustainable parks to the Tennessee State Parks system.
The dedication ceremony will take place on Friday, October 23, at 1pm. The address is 599 Horseshoe Bend Road, Linden, Tennessee. To ensure a smooth arrival, please note that cell service is limited in the area. If you lose service while using GPS, simply stay on Horseshoe Bend Road. The road will dead-end into a gate, where staff will be posted to direct you to the parking area.
A public feedback session on the Buffalo River State Park was held on September 28. Attendees heard more about the initial 30-year plan for the park and gave some feedback on things they would like to see implemented. Some of the feedback and talking points included:
• Preserve and display artifacts at the Visitors’ Center.
• Have a hiking trail along wetland areas.
• Desire for native warm season grass fields.
• Tube float would be nice.
• Continue allowing access to established horse trails.
• Don’t allow motorboats to use river access.
• County may need to improve the county road.
• Wayne County officials would prefer more direct access for Wayne County.
TDEC representatives assured attendees that all comments, suggestions, and concerns would be considered throughout the planning process.
