The Wayne County Civitan Club’s annual Bobby Brown Memorial Fundraiser Vidalia Onion Sale was a huge success this year. The club sold 340 ten-pound bags of onions, with Connie Massa being the top seller. Connie received a special gift for selling 120 bags of onions and was recognized for her dedication to the Civitan Club.
Shane Ward and Jim Beavers helped load the onions, along with members of the Columbia and Pulaski Civitan Clubs. The Columbia club picks the onions up in Clarksville, and then meets the others in Columbia for distribution. This is a tremendous help for the Wayne County and Pulaski clubs.
A little bit of history on Civitan:
Civitan International is an organization of community service clubs dedicated to helping others. There are Civitan clubs in more than 35 countries around the world, all working to make a difference. The Civitan Club right here in Wayne County certainly makes a difference in our community.
As part of their mission, the clubs help fund the Civitan International Research Center. This world-class research center is dedicated to better treatment and understanding for disorders such as autism, cerebral palsy, brain cancer, and other illnesses of the human brain.
Membership in the Civitan Club goes beyond making a difference in the lives of others. Civitan membership provides opportunities for personal growth, leadership training, and organizational experience. Civitans from all walks of life have gone on to serve as leaders not only within the Civitan Club itself, but in many other capacities as well.
Many also join Civitan to meet civic-minded people, enjoy fellowship, and do something truly fulfilling with their free time.
The Wayne County Civitan club projects directly benefit local needs such as assisted living residents, special education students, and clients of Buffalo River Services. Members of the club try to make sure these individuals are shown love and remembered as well as being involved in our community.
Yearly projects and activities of the Wayne County Civitan Club include:
• Birthday cards/treat bags for residents and staff at Loving Care Assistant Living
• Birthday cards and holiday treat bags for Buffalo River Services clients
• Gift cards for each Special Education classroom in the Wayne County School System (for snacks and classroom supplies)

As a member, you can attend club meetings, participate in club projects, attend international events, and be eligible to hold offices at the club and international levels.
