A Collinwood woman and her pedestrian companion were treated for minor injuries following an accident on Railroad Bed Road in Collinwood on Thursday, September 3rd.
According to the report filed by THP Sgt. Wesley Bosheers, Jimmy Clay, Jr., age 30, of Collinwood, was walking west in the westbound lane of Railroad Bed Road just outside of Collinwood city limits. Stacy Lynn Ferguson, age 30, also of Collinwood, was in a wheelchair in the westbound lane of travel and was being pushed by Mr. Clay. Porfirio Geurraro Ibarra, age 66, of Collinwood, was driving in the westbound lane of Railroad Bed Road near the intersection with Catawba Road and struck both Mr. Clay and Ms. Ferguson. Mr. Ibarra’s 2007 GMC Sierra came to a final rest after a controlled stop in the westbound lane of travel. Both Mr. Clay and Ms. Ferguson came to a final rest off the roadway in the ditch.
In his statement given to Sgt. Bosheers, Mr. Ibarra stated that the sun had obstructed his vision, and he did not see the pedestrians before striking them. Multiple witnesses confirmed that the sun was directly in line with the roadway at the time of the crash.
Both Ms. Ferguson and Mr. Clay were transported by helicopter to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for evaluation and treatment. They now have both reportedly been released from the hospital.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to have been factors in the accident. According to Sgt. Bosheers, Mr. Ibarra will not be facing any charges in relation to this accident.
