Shop Small Business Saturday on November 29th

Posted

Small Business Saturday is set for November 29, the Saturday after Thanksgiving following Black Friday. It is a day for everyone to support local and independent businesses. This event was created by American Express in 2010 and was co-sponsored by the Small Business Administration (SBA) in 2011. It has rapidly become an important part of the local small businesses’ busiest shopping season. The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce encourages everyone to shop at the locally owned businesses throughout the county and those located in Collinwood, Clifton, and Waynesboro this holiday season!

Every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Shop Small movement energizes small business owners to prepare for customers in every way possible. That includes the traditional brick-and-mortar customer and the online shopper. The single-day event continues to grow each year. That means local small business owners are ready for you to shop their stores! It is a wonderful shopping opportunity available right in our own community. Wayne County’s locally owned small businesses are the foundation of where we work, live, and play. They offer numerous gift-giving possibilities, are hands-on, and ready to complete your shopping list with quality, thoughtful gifts. These locally owned small businesses feed the communities of Wayne County and help to keep our main streets alive.

Supporting a local small business means you're supporting your local economy, local business, tax base, schools, and infrastructure. Your holiday shopping will put food on the tables of people you know. You will be doing your community lots of good, and you will also be finding quality gifts. Small businesses take pride in their work. They've worked hard for their dream, and it shows in their craftsmanship.

How can you help observe Small Business Saturday? Check your holiday shopping list for those who would like handcrafted items and buy locally. Handcrafted means a lot of things, such as woodworking to sewing, pottery to quilting, welding to jewelry, baked goods to preserves, and much more! They may specialize in one area, or they may offer a variety of services. Don’t hesitate to walk in and explore the store. You may just be surprised to find what they offer and discover the one thing you’ve been looking for. Who has a hard-to-shop-for family member? We all do, right? Ask the shop owner for help. They often have ideas you’ve never considered that will fill your empty stocking.

Now more than ever, the locally owned small businesses of Wayne County need our support. Please join the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce as we celebrate the small businesses’ contributions to our community by shopping at one of their locations on November 30, Small Business Saturday.
