The river city of Clifton is a beautiful place for a get-together, and the Clifton Chamber of Commerce is taking advantage of the lovely location for an Old-Fashioned Fall Festival on Saturday, November 8th.
From 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on November 8th, Clifton’s River Park will be filled with people, food, games, and music. What may be the best part is that there is no fee to enter.
The Old-Fashioned Fall Festival will start with a bang – a chili cook-off, which as of last week already had ten signed up to compete, will knock your socks off with different takes on traditional chili, all of which are sure to be a delicious hit for your taste buds.
Seven award-winning chainsaw carvers will be showing off their talents, creating amazing works of art with only a chainsaw and a piece of wood. An exotic petting zoo will draw all ages to see just what an “exotic” animal is – be prepared for surprises!
In the spirit of the fall season, there will be a “Best Pumpkin and Apple Pie” competition, and what else but a pie-eating contest?
Kids’ old-fashioned games will go on throughout the day. Parents will undoubtedly be explaining what the “old-fashioned” games are all about, or grandparents may have to step in to give instructions. It all depends on what era the “old-fashioned” games are coming from.
The Wayne Jerrolds Bluegrass Band will provide musical entertainment for the day. They are great musicians, and everyone will enjoy the bluegrass background, whether they are exploring all the activities or if they put a chair down near the stage and just relax while taking in the foot-tapping entertainment.
More entertainment that will be provided at the festival is clogging. Who remembers this type of dancing that originated over 100 years ago, most say in the Appalachian region with the “mountain folks.” However or wherever it originated, clogging became insanely popular and saw its heyday around here back in the 70s and early 80s. Parents either learned how to clog or remembered how from their childhood, and they strongly encouraged their own children to learn, too. Most kids loved to clog and perform after they got the hang of it.
The festival will have at least thirty vendors selling their wares, with a large majority offering all different kinds of delicious food. No one will leave the festival hungry, that’s a guarantee!
Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of all the Clifton Old-Fashioned Fall Festival has to offer – a day filled with food, games, music, and fun on the banks of the Tennessee River.
