New Gate at Collinwood Park Honors the Late Ralph "Sonny" Hughes

Posted

Just in time for last weekend’s Old Timers’ Day festivities, a lovely new wrought iron gate was put up by the City of Collinwood at the entrance of Ralph Hughes Park. The stately ironwork honors the memory of the late Ralph “Sonny” Hughes, for whom the city park in Collinwood was named.

The land where the park now stands was sold for a nominal fee to the City of Collinwood many years ago by the Hughes family with only one condition – that it be used for a recreational park. Old Timers’ Day is undoubtedly the largest event held at Ralph Hughes Park every year, but families and children can be found there on any given sunny day to enjoy the playground and pavilions.
