A new opportunity for adults who enjoy good books, good conversation, and good company got underway on Thursday evening, September 3rd, at the Waynesboro Public Library with the first meeting of the Book Club for Grown-Ups.
Nine local adults attended the inaugural gathering, which offered an evening of conversation, fellowship, and a shared appreciation for reading.
The Book Club for Grown-Ups takes a somewhat different approach from a traditional book club. Rather than having everyone read and discuss the same book, members are encouraged to bring a book that has interested them and introduce it to the group. This unique format allows members to discover a wider range of writers, subjects, and genres while learning from one another’s reading interests.
“We wanted to create a place where grown-ups could come together, slow down a little, enjoy a good book, and enjoy one another’s company,” said Holli Haddock, Library Director. “You don’t have to be an avid reader or literary expert. If you like books and good conversation, you’re welcome.”
The group plans to meet twice a month on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. at the Waynesboro Public Library. The next meeting is scheduled for September 17 at 6:00 p.m.
Anyone interested in joining the Book Club for Grown-Ups is encouraged to contact the Waynesboro Public Library (931-722-5537) and sign up to attend, as seating is limited.
The organizers hope the new club will become another opportunity for people in our community to meet their neighbors, make new friends, discover new authors and genres, and rediscover the pleasure of sitting down with a good book.
