CHS Trojans and Trojanettes Headed to District Tourney

As the regular season came to a close, the Collinwood High School Trojanettes and Trojans wrapped up their schedules with competitive performances and now shift their focus to the District Tournament.

The Trojanettes put together some of their most complete outings down the stretch, highlighted by a dominant 69-43 win over Santa Fe. Emmy Brown led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Sophia Keeton matched her with 18 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double of her own. Ellie Blalock added 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists, and Sarah Creecy contributed seven points and nine rebounds. Abby Smith finished with four points, two assists, and three steals, while Brinn Crews added four points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Aubrey Todd chipped in two points and a rebound, and Brenleigh Hunt added a steal for the Trojanettes.

The team secured a 60-32 victory over Mt. Pleasant. Keeton led with 23 points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block. Brown achieved her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, plus three assists, two steals, and one block. Abby Smith contributed six points, three rebounds, five steals, and one assist. Ellie Blalock added seven points, three rebounds, and three assists. Lydia Caperton and Brinn Crews each scored five points, with Caperton grabbing three rebounds and Crews adding two rebounds and one assist. Sarah Creecy finished with two points and three rebounds. Aubrey Todd and Brenleigh Hunt also made key defensive plays; Todd had two rebounds, while Hunt had three rebounds, one assist, and one block.

The Trojanettes closed the regular season with a hard-fought 37-29 loss to Waynesboro. Brown led with 14 points, three rebounds, and one assist, while Keeton added 9 points and four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Crews had 3 points, Blalock had 2 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Abby Smith had 1 point, three rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal. Creecy contributed in a defensive battle that will prepare the team for postseason intensity with two rebounds, one block, and one charge.

In the boys' regular season finale, the Trojans faced tough competition, ultimately losing to Santa Fe by a score of 69-52. Brody Holt led the team with 17 points, two rebounds, and one block. Tate Linville contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Bennett Rich added 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and three blocks to the effort. Cole Risner scored 5 points along with two rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Patch Craig contributed 4 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Finally, Brandon Gray had 1 point and one rebound, while Stetson also finished with 1 point and one rebound.

The Trojans suffered a defeat against Mt. Pleasant, losing 55-42. Tate Linville led the team with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal, while Bennett Rich contributed nine points, six rebounds, and one assist. Cole Risner added seven points and three rebounds, Brody Holt scored six points, three rebounds, and one steal, and Patch Craig provided three points, one rebound, four assists, and one steal. Additionally, Brandon Gray made an impact inside with two points, four rebounds, one assist, and drew a charge.

The regular season concluded with the Trojans facing Waynesboro, ultimately falling short by a score of 76-38. Patch Craig was the top scorer, contributing 13 points, while Linville and Rich each added seven points. Risner scored six points, and Holt finished with five.

With multiple double-doubles from Brown and Keeton anchoring the girls’ late-season surge and a strong team effort closing out the boys’ schedule, both teams now turn their focus to district tournament play. The regular season provided growth, resilience, and momentum — and both teams will look to carry that into the postseason as they compete for a district title, starting on Friday, February 20th, and continuing through Saturday, February 21st.---Written by Brilea Pigg, CHS Junior
