In June, the Collinwood High School cheerleading team attended a cheer camp held by the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). While at camp, the cheerleaders focused on many different aspects of cheerleading. Camp enables the athletes to learn best practices, such as stunt safety, legalities, and skill training while bonding as a team and learning new material. At the end of camp, UCA gave many different awards to the teams attending camp. Some of these awards include the following: a spirit stick, which is awarded to teams with high team spirit and energy; evaluation ribbons, which are awarded to teams based on their knowledge of the material and overall performance; trophies, which are awarded to teams that score the highest in their division; and All-American Awards, which are awarded to athletes that stand out during a tryout at camp.
Collinwood High School was awarded a spirit stick each day of camp, two superior ribbons during their two evaluations, a first-place trophy for being named the 2024 Small Varsity Camp Champion for the camp routine, and the Tradition Award (which was voted on by the UCA staff). Five cheerleaders were named All-American cheerleaders by the UCA staff. These cheerleaders include Grace Ann Oliver, Shaina Calton, Harbor Moore, Kandace Luker, and Avery Stults. Additionally, Aven Dotson was chosen by CHS's “big sister” during the Pin It Forward Ceremony. The UCA staff members each selected a cheerleader who demonstrated strong leadership skills and good sportsmanship.
The cheerleading team at Collinwood High School is coached by Daphne Robertson and Chelsey Andrews.
