The 2019 season of Wayne County High School football begins this Friday night as the Wildcats travel to Loretto to take on the Mustangs. The 'Cats will be in rebuilding mode, trying to replace 21 players lost by graduation from last season's team. The Wildcats are under the direction of "new" Head Coach Cary Crews. He will be assisted by John Blackwell, Ryan Keaton, Lance Nutt, Derek Willis, and Greg Morris. Michael Byrd will be on the sidelines as support staff, working as equipment manager and trainer.
This year's version of the Wildcats will be led by senior squad members Aaron Stooksberry, Christian Teeftaller, Tucker Andrews, Dylan Perry, Tanner Potter, Tatem Potter, Carson Van Fleet, Travis Paterson, JoJo Swinea, and Josh Nutt. The junior class includes Gaynes Keaton, Clay Baugus, Spencer Turnbow, Cade Crews, Cameron Manley, Hunter Staggs, Jonmikel Lynn, Damian Dickey, Blayne Love, Andrew Blackburn, Joel Martin, and Wesley Nutt. Sophomores include Brian-Austin Carlton, Dawson Willis, Julian Birchett, Taimmy Robbins, Braxton Littleton, Jeremiah Robbins, Levi Vrska, Chance Kelley, Luke Sesler, Jesse Keeton, and Wyatt Moody. Newcomers to the Wildcat team are Jesse Dixon, Carl Britt, Eli McClain, Hector Merino, Noah Maples, Austin Whitson, Anthony Palinski, Dylan Kimbrell, Colton Beason, Nolan Moore, Seth Kiddy, Hunter Holder, Tacoma Odle, and Zander Frierson. Managers for the ‘Cats are Tanner Hughes and Cameron Lowe.
Cheerleaders for the 2019 season will be Mary Kate Andrews, Kassidy Gresham, Kasee Johnson, Chloe Skelton, Brooke Byrd, Autumn Harrison, Camryn Holder, McKaya Bright, Autumn Clayton, Madison Gobbell, Alex Hollis, Isabelle Davis, Olivia Gobbell, Carlie Staggs and "Wiley the Wildcat,” Ronnie Goldsby. The cheer squad is under the direction of Tara Hollis and Anna Beth Haggard.
The Wildcats will open their season on the road at Loretto and return to host Summertown on the 30th at Guy H. Buchanan Stadium. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
