Region 6 -1A has announced their All-Region awards for 2018. Wayne County High School's Owen Risner was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Risner, the Wildcats’ quarterback, is a senior. He was joined on the All-Region team by Myles Prince, Tucker Pyle, Dawson Nutt, Alex Byrd, Aaron Wilson, and Ethan Hill.
Honorable Mention selections for All-Region 2018 from the Wildcats include Corey Mathis, Colin Bratcher, JoJo Swinea, and Carson Ray.
The Wildcats finished the season with a 7 - 5 record.
Defensive stats from the final two regular season games and the first round play-off game are as follows:
Perry County Game - Blaine Love had 6 tackles, Myles Prince made 4 tackles, and Preston Moore had three tackles and a fumble recovery. Hunter Staggs had a fumble recovery and made 2 tackles. Timmy Robbins, Corey Mathis, Clay Baugus, and Hunter Davis each had 2 tackles, while Owen Risner, Aaron Stooksberry, Aaron Wilson, Carson Ray, Christian Teeftaller, Tucker Andrews, and JonMikel Lynn all had a tackle with Teeftaller coming up with a fumble recovery. Colby Lynn had an interception.
Collinwood Game - Hunter Staggs and Aaron Wilson led in tackles with 6 each. Preston Moore had 5 tackles, while Clay Baugus and Myles Prince each had 4 tackles. JoJo Swinea, Aaron Stooksberry, Dawson Nutt, Tucker Pyle, Andrew Brison, and Jackson Morris each had 2 tackles. Pyle and Morris each had an interception. Julian Burchett, Carson Ray, Owen Risner, Corey Mathis, Christian Teeftaller, and Blaine Love each had one tackle.
Huntland Game - Myles Prince led the 'Cats with 13 tackles. Owen Risner, Aaron Wilson, and Ethan Hill each had 6 tackles while Dawson Nutt had 5 hits. Jackson Morris and Clay Baugus each had 4 tackles. JoJo Swinea, Carson Ray, and Corey Mathis had 2 tackles each. Josh Nutt, Hunter Staggs, Travis Paterson, Preston Moore, Tucker Pyle and Aaron Stooksberry had one tackle each. Pyle also came up with a fumble recovery and an interception.
The Wildcats will be working hard to prepare for 2019 with lots of work needed to replace the 21 seniors they are losing to graduation. "GO WILDCATS!" --------Submitted
