Raymond Lee Thompson peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 14 days.

   Mr. Thompson was born June 28, 1922 in Wayne County, and he was the son of Lewis Albert and Laura Martin Thompson. He was united in marriage to Birdie Nell West on July 29, 1946. He honorably served in the United States Army during World War II from 11/1942-11/1945. He was retired from Murray Ohio, a member of American Legion Post 254, and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Thompson had a passion for farming and gardening, and was an avid talker who never met a stranger.

   He is survived by his wife, Birdie Nell West Thompson of Iron City, Tennessee; three daughters, Leatrice Ann Demery of Savannah, Tennessee, Katherine Nell Brison and husband David of Collinwood, Tennessee, and Brenda Faye Allen of Iron City. Grandchildren include: Kevin Copous and wife Tammy; Rhonda Short; Brian Brison and wife Brittney; and granddaughter-in-law Trisha Thompson; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Minnie Pearl Borden of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

   In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnathon Thompson; brothers, Charlie, Melvin, Bonnie, Mack, and Samuel Thompson; and sisters, Dorothy Liles, Mary Ann Furman, Reba Chaney, and Marie McBrayer.
