James Anthony Pope, age 56, of Waynesboro was arrested on Thursday, July 4th following a traffic stop for driving while using a mobile device. The report filed by Officer Austin Lanier of the Waynesboro Police Department states that while Pope was looking for his driver’s license, Officer Lanier noticed a suspicious-looking $100 bill mixed in with the other money in Pope’s possession. Officer Lanier then asked to inspect the $100 bill, and identified it as counterfeit. Upon inventory of Pope’s vehicle, Officer Lanier allegedly located three needles and syringes believed to be used for the injection of methamphetamine. Pope was arrested on charges of alleging possession of counterfeit money and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $12,500.00 bond.
