   The Wayne County 7-8 Dixie Youth Boys began district tournament play on Saturday, June 15 in Linden. Wayne County faced the home standing Linden team in the opening game. As the visiting team, Wayne County tallied eight runs in the first inning and after holding Linden scoreless in the bottom of the first led 8-0 after one inning of play. The Wayne County team added eight more in the second and 10 in the third winning by a final score of 26-1. Wayne County then squared off with Summertown in the second game on Saturday. Again as the visiting team, Wayne County got off to a quick start scoring seven runs in the top of the first.  Summertown answered with two runs in the bottom, but Wayne County exploded for 11 runs in the top of the second and tallied three more in the third to win 21-2. After persistent rain showers forced postponements on Monday and Tuesday, Wayne County was back in action on Wednesday to face an undefeated Lewis County team. After holding Lewis County scoreless in the top of the first, Wayne County plated three runs to take a 3-0 lead going to the second. The Wayne County defense continued its stellar play holding Lewis County scoreless in the second inning while the offense blasted its way to 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning. After holding Lewis County scoreless over the next two frames, Wayne County had a 13-0 win to continue its march through the tournament undefeated. Two games were scheduled for Thursday with both the semifinals and finals to be played that night. In the first matchup, Decatur County scored one run in the top of the first, but Wayne County came right back with three in the bottom to lead 3-1 after one inning. Decatur County added another run in the top of the second to trim the Wayne County lead to 3-2 after two innings. Decatur County would not score another run the rest of the game and Wayne County would total four runs in the third and three more in the fifth to win 10-2. Summertown had clawed its way through the loser’s bracket to earn a rematch with Wayne County in the championship game. After allowing one run to Summertown in the top of the first, the Wayne County bats were smoking to the tune of seven runs in the bottom of the first.  Summertown would muster only one more run the rest of the way while Wayne County would plate four in the second and another in the fourth to win 12-2. With the district championship secured, Wayne County will advance to state tournament play in Henderson, TN on July 4th at 2 p.m. Wayne County team members include: Myles Butler, Hunter Skelton, Max-Parker Dixon, Jase Martin, Dacota Solway, Bentley Littleton, Casen Holt, Kyler Self, Beckett Miller, Caysen Mosley, Casey Franks, and Drew Baugus.
