The Wayne County Dixie Debs 19U girls, representing our state as Team Tennessee, brought home the First Runner-Up trophy last week after some hard-fought battles in the World Series held in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
The girls played five games leading up to the Championship Game on August 7th. They first played Team Louisiana, defeating them by one run, 4-3. The second game was against Team Virginia, who the Tennessee girls handily defeated by a score of 15-5. Team Tennessee suffered their first lost against the host team, Team Texas, by a score of 5-4. They then went on to defeat Team Virginia once again, this time by a score of 12-2. The Tennessee girls then again faced hosts Team Texas, this time defeating them by a score of 3-1.
The Championship Game saw Team Tennessee facing Team South Carolina. Our girls fought hard and played well, but were defeated in the end by a score of 2-0, making them First Runners-Up in the Dixie Youth World Series.
Each day that Team Tennessee played, the heat index was 100+ in the Texas sun. The girls played great in spite of the challenging heat. This is the second time that Wayne County Dixie Debs have brought home the World Series First Runner-Up trophy, repeating their excellent performance in 2017. Congratulations to these hard-working young ladies and their dedicated coaches and parents for an outstanding season!
