   The Wayne County 5-6 Sweetees All Stars traveled to McEwen, Tennessee to play in the Tennessee Dixie Youth State Tournament starting on July 12th. The girls opened up play on the first night of the tournament with an offensive onslaught, beating the host team McEwen 21-0. This win led to a day 2 rematch with Perry County whom Wayne County had beaten twice in the District Tournament. The girls continued swinging hot bats scoring 7 runs in the first inning and cruising to a 24-13 win over the girls from Perry County.

   The winner’s bracket championship game pitted Wayne County against the defending State Champions from Chester County. Chester County scored 3 runs in the top of the first and the Wayne County girls countered with another big first inning of 7 runs. Chester County would struggle offensively and Wayne County had some timely defensive plays that led to an 18-7 victory over the defending champs.

   The day 3 opponent would be a pesky Fairview team that had some big bats at the top of their order. Wayne County came out hot with a 13-2 lead after two innings of play. The Fairview bats heated up in the 3rd and 4th innings, but every time they scored the Wayne County bats would answer as the Wayne County girls won 24-16 to advance to the State Championship game.

    Chester County fought out of the loser’s bracket for a rematch with the girls from Wayne County in Day 4’s State Championship. The girls continued showing their offensive prowess as they scored 19 runs in the first 3 innings, defeating Chester County 19-7 to bring home the State Championship. The girls ran their postseason record to 9-0 and outscored their opponents in the State Tournament 106-43. These girls have scored an astounding 171 runs in 9 postseason games while only surrendering 55 runs.

   The Wayne County girls get the privilege of becoming Team Tennessee in the Dixie Softball World Series that begins July 27th in Eufaula, Alabama. These girls have worked extremely hard in the summer heat and will continue making Wayne County proud in the World Series. Team members are Skyler Gallian, Avery Franks, Ella Scaife, Ava Burks, Taylor Skelton, Ady Morgan, Sandra Crowe, Ava Kelly, Ansleigh Maghielse, E.J. Malugen, Lainey Pippenger, and Avery Horner.
