The Tennessee Valley Strummers dulcimer group will be performing at the Wayne County Welcome Center in Collinwood on Saturday, April 27th from 10 A.M. – 12 noon. The Strummers are a local group of players from the area and neighboring counties in Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi. They practice twice a month at the Collinwood Senior Center and at Chad’s Restaurant.
The Appalachian Dulcimer originated in the Appalachian Mountain region in the early 1800s. British, Scottish, Irish, and other settlers told their stories and continued their heritage in song and music. They modified instruments from their homelands, such as the German Sheitholtz, and created their own instruments with the available limited resources they had at the time. Thus, the Appalachian Mountain “Dulcimore” was born – later called “dulcimer,” which means “sweet sound.”
Everyone is invited to come to the Welcome Center on Saturday and enjoy some folk, Southern Gospel, and traditional dulcimer music! For more information, contact Jasper (Jack) Brewer, 931-722-0203, or Terry Brewer, 931-722-1057.
