Nathan Paul Atwell, age 30, of Iron City, Tennessee, was arrested on Thursday, May 9th on charges from an incident dating back to July 12th, 2018. The arrest warrant filed last year by Deputy Tyler McKenzie stated that on Thursday, July 12th, 2018, he performed a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Atwell for having no license plate. When Deputy McKenzie began talking with Atwell, Atwell allegedly admitted that he had an arrest warrant out of Lawrence County for violation of probation. Deputy McKenzie then placed Atwell in handcuffs while he ran his information through dispatch. Dispatch confirmed that Atwell did have Lawrence County warrants for a revoked driver’s license and aggravated assault. When Deputy McKenzie proceeded to inform Atwell that he did have outstanding warrants and was under arrest, Atwell allegedly refused to get into the back of the patrol vehicle and pulled away from Deputy McKenzie. Atwell then managed to get back into his own vehicle and drove away with the handcuffs on, which were placed in front of him. Deputy McKenzie pursued Atwell into Iron City, and was then called off from the pursuit. When Atwell was arrested on May 9th, 2019, he was charged with escape, two counts of evading arrest, driving on a revoked or suspended license 2nd offense, and theft of property under $500. He was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $27,500.00 bond.
