An annual summer tradition in our county is gearing up to be even bigger and better this year! The Independence Day Celebration in Waynesboro is coming up on Wednesday, July 3rd, and promises to provide great music, fireworks, and all-around family fun.
The celebration will be held once again at the Waynesboro City Park, beginning at 5:00 p.m. on July 3rd. Admission is free for all attendees! Just bring blankets or lawn chairs in order to relax and enjoy the musical performances on Stage 64.
Beginning at 5:00, vendors will be set up all around the park offering many different kinds of food and other goodies. The music will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Wayne County’s own Crooked Creek, a group who never fails to put on a great show!
The night’s headlining performers will hit the stage at 8:00 p.m. – Ben and Noel Haggard, sons of Country Music Hall of Fame recipient Merle Haggard. Ben and Noel Haggard tour together, continuing their father’s legacy by singing his songs. The great Merle Haggard passed away on April 6th, 2016, and Ben Haggard recalls his father telling him before he died, “You’d be an idiot not to take my guitar and my bus, not to sing my songs for as long as you can…go out there and play until there’s nobody to play to.” Wayne County will most surely be someone the Haggards will enjoy playing to!
The breathtaking fireworks extravaganza is set to begin at 9:00 p.m. The display in Waynesboro has come to be known as one of the best Independence Day fireworks displays in the entire state of Tennessee.
Mark your calendars for the event, and be sure to bring the whole family for an evening of great food, awesome music, spectacular fireworks, and an abundance of fun!
