4-H Chick Chain

 Show and Sale

It’s almost time for the Wayne County 4-H Chick Chain Show and Sale! The event will take place at Pavilion #1 (the first one on the left as you enter the park) at the Waynesboro City Park at 10:00 A.M. on September 14, 2019. This year’s featured breed is the Red Sex-link. All chickens entered into the show will be pullets, and should be close to egg-laying age – some may be already laying at the time of the show!

After the awards ceremony, for the 4-H members who wish to sell their chickens, we will have an auctioneer available. The proceeds raised for each pen of chickens will go back to the 4-H member showing the pen. If you wish to purchase chickens at the show, please plan to arrive around 10:00 A.M. and register for a bidder number. Also, plan to bring your own cage to transport your newly purchased pullets.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the Wayne County Extension Office at 722-3229.

4-H Livestock

 Judging

Livestock Judging is a process of evaluating, selecting, placing, and learning the various livestock species – beef cattle, goats, sheep, and swine. This contest allows 4-H’ers to relate the “form” of the animal to the “function” of the animal, whether the animal is intended to be a breeding stock or for market.

4-H Livestock Judging practices will begin soon! Our first practices will be right after school at the following locations on the following dates: Clifton - September 30 in Mrs. Pulley’s room immediately after school; Collinwood - October 1 in the Cafeteria at Collinwood Middle School immediately after school; Waynesboro - October 3 at the Extension Office at 3:00 P.M. (WMS and WCHS students who are attending should ride the bus from the school to the Extension Office on the square, and must bring a parent note stating that they have permission to do so, unless they are old enough to drive themselves to the office.)

Any students who are home schooled and would like to participate are welcome to join in at the location closest to them, or at the Waynesboro location – whichever is preferred!

Dates for further practices will be given at the first practice, so attendance is important if you wish to participate. The contest will be held on November 7 at Triple P Arena in Decaturville.  The contest is open to any student in grades 5-12.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the Wayne County Extension Office at 722-3229.
