I realize that the end of June may not seem super close, as it’s still April, but we need to start thinking about adult leaders for Junior 4-H Camp. If your 4-H’er is wanting to go to camp, and you would like to go to camp as a leader, you can go to camp for free – all you have to do is help out with some of the stations at camp! It’s pretty easy – you might help 4-H’ers with things in the craft house, keep an eye on 4-H’ers as they’re splashing in the pool or creek, help them as they prepare to get on the zip-line, take tickets at the window in the Canteen, or several other activities around the camp. Lodging and meals are provided – the food in the cafeteria is pretty fantastic, I will say! Getting to go to camp for free with your child isn’t the only perk – not only will you be making lasting memories with your child, but you will also be making a positive impact on the lives of other children in our county, as well as several other counties in the Western Region! In addition to all of these things, we are offering an early camp enrollment for 4-H’ers whose parents/guardians/grandparents will commit to attending camp as a 4-H volunteer leader. The requirements include the adult completing the forms to be a 4-H volunteer, and to be able to pass a background check. We currently have one adult female volunteer going with us to camp – we are needing possibly at least one more adult female volunteer, and definitely at least one adult male volunteer, possibly two adult male volunteers. These volunteers do not have to be parents, however – they can be siblings who have been out of school for at least one full year, so this is perfect for siblings in college who would like to go to camp with their younger brothers or sisters! If you are interested in being a volunteer to go to camp with your camper, please call the Extension Office at 722-3229 for more information!
