Preston Rice, former quarterback for the Wayne County High School Wildcats, is now playing in the quarterback position for the Murray State (KY) Racers. Preston, a 6 ft. 1 in., 222 lb. sophomore, is the son of Rick Rice and Christi Rice. Preston’s dad Rick was his coach for all four years of his football career at WCHS. Rick Rice is now the head coach at Rockvale, TN.
The Murray State Racers played the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, and were defeated by a score of 63-17. The Racers held their own against the 3rd ranked Bulldogs, and Preston Rice showed his talent as quarterback, completing 20 of 25 passes, and he threw for 216 yards. He also threw the ball for one touchdown.
Rice was a two-time finalist for the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Class 1A Back award, and won the award in 2016. He was the three-time Region 6A MVP. Preston is the current TSSAA record holder for career passing/rushing touchdowns during his high school career. He finished his career with over 6,000 passing yards and over 2,000 rushing yards.
Rice is playing quarterback for the Racers while working toward a degree in Public Relations.
