Justin Barnett, son of Paul and Tereasa Barnett of Iron City, is the recipient of the 2019 “Leadership to Legacy” $1,000 Scholarship awarded by the Collinwood Football Foundation. In addition, Kannan Hanvey, son of Kevin Hanvey and Jody Smith of Iron City, and Jeremiah Tidwell, son of Shannon and Matilda Tidwell of Collinwood, were the recipients of the 2019 “Leadership to Legacy” $500 Scholarships given by the Foundation. The scholarships are awarded annually to Collinwood High School senior football players who embody the spirit, determination, and commitment that was demonstrated by those first players. The scholarship also recognizes an individual determination to succeed, an ability to overcome hardships, strong leadership, and strength of character.
Justin Barnett was a four-year letterman for the Collinwood Trojan football team, volunteered as an assistant to the Pre-K teachers at Collinwood Elementary School, and created Free Movie Night for the City of Collinwood including free popcorn and drinks. Justin plans to attend Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Kannan Hanvey was a four-year letterman for the Collinwood Trojan football team. He served as a member of the Beta Club, Student Council, Talent Search, and Future Farmers of America. Kannan also plans to attend Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Jeremiah Tidwell was a four-year letterman for the Collinwood Trojan football team and basketball team. He was a member of the Beta Club, Leaders in Action, and the Junior Civitan Club. He also volunteered with Crusade Against Cancer and represented Collinwood High School as a delegate to Boys’ State. Jeremiah plans to attend a community college and work toward becoming a veterinarian.
In addition, each senior football player received a signed copy of the book “This is a Football” that chronicles the beginning of the Collinwood High School football program.
