Flag Day is coming up on Friday, June 14th, and American Legion Post 130 of Waynesboro will be holding a ceremony to properly dispose of all worn, tattered, or unserviceable flags. The ceremony will be at the Waynesboro Legion Hall, located at 114 North Main Street, at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
The U.S. Flag code states that, “the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Thus, when a flag is torn and tattered beyond repair, it’s time for it to be retired.
Any organization or individual that has a flag which needs proper disposal may bring it by the Legion Hall on Thursday, June 13th or Friday, June 14th between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The public is respectfully invited to attend the ceremony, which will give honor to that most patriotic symbol of the United States and all those who have fought and died for our freedom.
