TVA To Reduce Rates Effective Jan. 1 TVA today announced a decrease in its fuel cost adjustment effective Jan. 1, 2009.
Because the fuel cost adjustment is a per kilowatt-hour charge, amounts that consumers will save depends on the amount of energy they use. While savings will vary across the Tennessee Valley, residential consumers can expect a decrease ranging from about $4 to $8 in their monthly power bills. Since retail billing periods for TVA power distributors vary across the Valley, some January bills will include December usage at the lower FCA amount. Read More | Post Comment

Co. Commission Authorizes Co.- Run D.D. School The Wayne County Commission met in a lengthy session Monday, November 17, with several issues involving budgetary matters creating serious discussions.
At this session, commission-ers voted to authorize a county-run defensive driving school, heard reports on two upcoming construction projects, and were given departmental status reports by School Superintendent Wanda Johnston, Highway Superintendent Jeff Minatra and Sheriff Ric Wilson. W’boro Commissioners Increase Purchasing Limit; Hear Fairlane Drive Proposal Waynesboro city commissioners met in regular session Monday, November 10 with a light agenda of mostly routine city business to attend.
Commissioners removed from the table the issue of raising the spending limit before bids are required, passing a change with a qualifying stipulation. The commission also heard a proposal for improving Fairlane Drive, discussed problems at the city well at Geisler Springs, and were brought up to date on projects in several departments of city government. Board Of Education Approves Budget Amendments, Volunteer Coaches WMS/FHS The Wayne County Board of Education met in regular session at the Central Office in Waynesboro Thursday, November 14, with a brief agenda of routine school business on the table.

W’boro P.D. Arrests One On Felony Drug Charges, Alleged Rolling Drug Lab An anonymous call to the Waynesboro Police Department reporting a suspicious vehicle at a local car wash led to the confiscation of an alleged rolling drug lab and a felony drug arrest Friday, November 14.
Timothy Ray Jones, 31, of 1929 Clifton Turnpike, Waynesboro was arrested on charges of Class B felony manufacturing methamphetamine with intent to resell within 100 feet of a school ,Class B felony possession of methamphetamine within 100 feet of a school, and Class E felony possession of drug paraphernalia based on evidence from this arrest incident. Maury Regional NICU Celebrates 2nd Anniversary In celebration of its second anniversary, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) hosted a reunion on October 25. NICU graduates and their families were invited to attend the event in the medical center cafeteria, which featured a family portrait area, drawings for baby supplies and toys, and crafts for the children. However, the most disturbing fact is every day, 3,000 kids start using tobacco products across our nation. Seeing these numbers, we also have to recognize in the U.S. there were 215,020 lung cancer cases and 161,840 deaths in 2008. 4-H NEWS Eight members of the Wayne County livestock judging team competed in the Regional competition last week. Team members had to judge two classes of cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats. Jo Byrns Ends Wildcats Season 33-6 The football season ended last Friday night for the Wayne County High School Wildcats as the Jo Byrns Red Devils, with a 10 – 1 record and 2nd place finish in Region 5-1A, came to town and went away with a 33 – 6 play-off win. The ‘Cats scored on their second possession of the game, answering an earlier touchdown by the Red Devils to trail 7 – 6, but couldn’t put another drive together. The Wildcats saw the Jo Byrns team come back and score again on the following series to take a 14 – 6 lead. C’Wood Middle School Trojans Continue Winning Streak The Trojans traveled to Waynesboro on Monday to take on the Wildcats. The Trojans got off to a slow start but still managed to lead at the half 20-11.
Collinwood came out strong in the second half and increased the lead. The final score was 42-25. Trojans Make History The Collinwood Trojans did something special this season. They ended the post season with a win, and they are the first Trojans team to do so.
Collinwood had been to the playoffs 18 times and had been to two previous bowl games, but had never ended their post season play with a win. The Trojans changed that when they defeated the Harriman Blue Devils on Friday Nov.6, in the 3rd Annual Stones River Bowl in Murfreesboro. The Trojans were dominant in the 47-7 win. CMS Trojanettes Take Wins Over Waynesboro, Savannah Christian Lose at Hardin Co. Collinwood Middle School had a very busy week on the basketball court.
On Monday, they traveled to Waynesboro to take on the Lady Cats for the second time in a week. And what a game it turned out to be, as both teams fought hard and refused to give up. The green team jumped out to a 12-5 lead after the first quarter, but by half time the game was tied at 16. The Trojanettes were hanging on to a 24-23 lead after the third quarter, but the Lady Cats came back to put in into overtime at 31-31.
